Hydrogenation in a high pressure non-isothermal
batch
slurry reactor
Go back
General description uses
This software package needs input data (to be supplied by the user)
which consist of operating conditions, kinetic
information and geometric information.
The
results,
which include reactant and product concentrations, reactor temperature
and the amount of hydrogen consumed, are calculated as functions of
time
by a numerical integration of the differential equations describing the
reactant concentration and the reactor temperature, using known initial
conditions. The software also displays information about the variation
of some important parameters with operating conditions.
General description
This software package simulates the performance of a high pressure
non-isothermal
slurry reactor where a liquid phase reactant is hydrogenated, using
suspended
solid catalyst particles. The reactor is a dead-end reactor, connected
to a pressure regulated hydrogen source. It is an agitated reactor, and
the heat evolved is removed by providing a cooling jacket as well as an
internal cooling coil. Cooling water or chilled water can be used as
the
cooling medium. Hydrogen solubility, dissolution rate, and heat
transfer
rate to the coil as well as jacket are calculated using well known
correlations.

Utility of the software
This software package can be used to :
- optimize the operating conditions of the hydrogenator such as
catalyst
loading, batch time etc.
- estimate kinetic information using operating data from an
industrial
reactor
- arrive at recommended operating conditions for a new reaction
system
- evaluate alternate cooling systems
